We are one of the few mental health care providers in the United States with staff trained in this protocol. Through animal assisted experiences, the client progresses through the 8 phases of EMDR therapy. EA-EMDR, created by Sarah Jenkins, is a manualized, phased, trauma treatment model based on EMDR therapy, an established research-based treatment standard. By using this approach, practioners are partnering with the horses as sentient beings, with the support of training, qualifications, ethical conduct, and a keen awareness of their welfare.
Someone who has suffered a traumatic event or series of traumatic events resulting in PTSD with related symptoms. EA-EMDR is offered to both Adults and Adolescents over the age of 15 on a case by case basis. Sessions are for individuals.
This protocol combines equine-assisted activities with basic EMDR techniques to amplify the effectiveness of the overall treatment. Clients with complex trauma and dissociation benefit from this approach.
During sessions, we use a variety of outdoor and indoor environments, including
the arena, pasture, trails, and other settings to provide a full experience of the horse's habitat to promote learning. Our ranch is a 50-acre facility located in Foristell, MO.
This type of equine-facilitated trauma treatment involves true partnership with the equine, as well as a phased and clinically sound process. Sessions are facilitated by a licensed Mental Health Professional, an Equine Specialist, a selection of Therapy Horses and the Participants. All are equal partners in this therapy. Our therapist Ian and Equine Specialist Elisha are specifically trained to facilitate EA-EMDR sessions.
